Liverpool Ease Past Everton in Merseyside Derby
Reds Maintain Unbeaten Run
Liverpool extended their unbeaten run to seven games in all competitions with a comfortable 2-0 victory over city rivals Everton in the Merseyside derby on Monday.
Goals from Mohamed Salah and Cody Gakpo secured the win for the Reds, who moved up to ninth in the Premier League table.
Everton, meanwhile, remain in the relegation zone after suffering their ninth defeat of the season.
Salah Breaks Deadlock
Liverpool took the lead in the 36th minute when Salah converted a penalty after he was fouled by Idrissa Gueye in the area.
The Egyptian had been in fine form in recent weeks and his goal against Everton was his eighth in his last seven appearances.
Gakpo Seals Victory
Liverpool doubled their lead in the 49th minute when Gakpo scored his first goal for the club.
The Dutchman was on hand to tap home after Darwin Nunez's shot was saved by Jordan Pickford.
Everton Fail to Respond
Everton failed to mount a serious challenge in the second half as Liverpool controlled the game.
The Toffees had a few chances to get back into the game, but they were unable to find a way past Alisson Becker in the Liverpool goal.
Liverpool Move Up the Table
Liverpool's victory moved them up to ninth in the Premier League table, just six points off the top four.
The Reds will be hoping to continue their good form when they face Newcastle United in their next league game on Saturday.
Everton Remain in Trouble
Everton's defeat to Liverpool leaves them in the relegation zone, just one point above bottom-of-the-table Southampton.
The Toffees will need to start picking up points soon if they want to avoid being dragged into a relegation battle.
