Batman: Caped Crusader Casts Minnie Driver as Oswald Cobblepot
Matt Reeves and JJ Abrams' Animated Series Adds Gender-Swapped Villainess
Get ready for a new twist on a classic Batman villain in the upcoming animated series Batman: Caped Crusader. Minnie Driver (Our Flag Means Death, Good Will Hunting) has been cast to voice Oswalda Cobblepot, a female variant of the notorious Penguin.
The news was revealed at San Diego Comic-Con on Saturday. Driver joins an all-star voice cast that includes Bruce Greenwood as Batman, Giancarlo Esposito as Commissioner Gordon, and Antony Starr as Two-Face.
Batman: Caped Crusader is co-developed by Bruce Timm, Matt Reeves, and JJ Abrams. The series is described as a "fresh and unique take on the Batman mythology that will explore the characters and their motivations in a new way."
The decision to make Oswald Cobblepot a female character has sparked mixed reactions from fans. Some have praised the move as a bold and refreshing change, while others have expressed concerns about straying too far from the source material.
