Wartburg, Tennessee - The 2024 Barkley Marathons concluded outside of Wartburg Tennessee with a record-breaking five. The race, which is considered one of the most difficult ultramarathons in the world, saw 38 starters, including four women and 34 men. Andrew Thompson John Kelly won the race in a record time of 59 hours and 10 minutes, while Jared Campbell finished second in 60 hours, 36 minutes. Jamil Coury finished third in 63 hours and 23 minutes. Maggie Guterl won the women's race in 67 hours and 13 minutes. The Barkley Marathons is a 100-mile race that takes place in the rugged terrain of Frozen Head State Park in Tennessee. The race has a 60-hour time limit, and runners must complete five loops of the course, each of which is about 20 miles long and includes more than 12,000 feet of climbing. The race is also known for its brutal weather conditions, which can include rain, snow, and ice. Only 15 people have ever finished the Barkley Marathons, and the race has a success rate of less than 1%.
